Here are cities of Ukraine marching!

How this project started with Ukraine?
In late September, there was a message from a close friend in Oklahoma:

Nina,
I have a colleague who is looking for someone in another country and who uses Skype. She'd like to have her students able to converse with another group of students in another country.  What do you think?

Nina,
So, I guess you are interested in having an exchange of conversation between a group of your students and a group of American students?  My colleague teaches at another college in Oklahoma, so I will give her your email address and you and she can work out the details of time and date.  It would be a great way for all students to hear about each other!
 Bertha

Yes, Bertha, it is a good idea. But I am worrying about level of my students. I will try to invite the best of my students to communicate.
Thanks a lot for the nice proposition.
Nina

Nina,
I don't think you should worry about your students' level of English.  It will be a good experience for both sides.  You might even have a list of questions or suggested topics in advance so that they could "practice" or prepare a little bit.  What do you think?

subject Skype Exchange

Dear Caryl,
My friend Nina Lyulkun lives in Khmelnitsky, Ukraine.  It is a small city in midwestern Ukraine. She is a professor in business English at a technological university there and has participated and led many of the efforts to use various forms of computer technology with students, including Skype, Second Life, online discussions, etc.  She has excellent skills in English even though it's one of several she speaks and reads.  I think that a student "exchange" via Skype could be a great experience for everyone.  I will leave it up to the two of you to work out the details of time and date for this exchange to take place, but I would love to hear how it goes!
Her Skype id is "nagora 60".
Let me know if there is anything else you need me to do.
Cheers!
Bertha

Yes, Bertha,  that would be of great help to my students.
 Warmly,
Nina

Hi Caryl and all!
Nice to hear from you and glad to meet you.

Nina,
Thank you so much for helping us with our Skype project.  Lisa Price, who is our Special Events coordinator and the director of Global Oklahoma, should be contacting you very soon with more details about what we are hoping to do.
It's my pleasure to participate in your Skype project. My students felt really excited  when I announced  the chance to participate in the project. It might be very interesting event. Actually, I thought it should be a long-term exchange of conversation between a group of your students and a group of our students, wouldn't it be?
Global Oklahoma is Rose State College’s annual festival of cultures, held on the big lawn of our college every year.  We are introducing something new this year, having people in other parts of the world who are all connected by Skype and who can talk with our students and visitors to our festival on October 3rd – nothing too formal, just to showcase the interconnectivity of people throughout the world.
It sounds  great!
Thank you again for your interest in participating.  I believe it will add so much to our festival, and hopefully be a great experience for your students as well!
Exactly. It should be  very interesting for our students, and it'll be a great experience for everyone. Thanks a lot for inviting again.
I am very much grateful to Bertha for the proposition. Hopping to create a corresponding blog or wiki describing the event and students' reflectiones.
With warmest regards,
Nina A. Lyulkun

Nina,
I’m not sure we are in a position to begin anything long-term, but it sounds intriguing.  I’d be very interested in seeing your blog and knowing how your students react.  We are very excited about your participation – hopefully by now you have been in touch with our director, who is busy making sure everything is in place for a successful festival.

This is fantastic.  Please Skype with me directly at GlobalOklahoma2009 and we will set it up for Saturday, Oct. 3, between the hours of 10am-5pm central time. I need to get all the details of who we are skyping with.

Next message at eve of the event:
Hello, you great people!  Well, it is time for me to turn the Skyping for the Global Oklahoma festival on Sat., Oct. 3 to our wonderful IT Dept. and Mr. Tyler Dunn to take it from here for Saturday to set the exact schedule.  I will still have my Skype address at GlobalOklahoma2009, HOWEVER, please now contact Tyler directly to Skype with and set the schedule of who you have, where they will be, and when, during 10am-5pm central time this Saturday--------looks like we are definitely going to the Ukraine, New York and Paris!

His Skype address is GlobalTest218 and his email is tdunn[at]rose.edu.

I’ll keep in touch with Tyler and I hope to see and speak with you too on Saturday during the day.  Thank you again so much for what you are doing and how you are offering to help us. It is delightful to work with you on this amazing project and I have loved our chats.
Many thanks.  Because of you, the guests at our festival are going to be amazed to truly go “Global” at the Global Oklahoma Festival.

SEE YOU SATURDAY from around the world!

Hello Nina and Emeline, oh and by the way, I want you to know I am right here on Skype too besides Tyler!  I love my new chat buddies. Skype me anytime, but that is definitely helpful now to go directly to Tyler for Saturday and the exact schedule.  He is our TECHNO guy, not me!  Ha. I’ve done OK til now and thank you so very much.  I have to run the whole festival now, so I brought in Tyler to help me with the Skyping project. A dream come true for us.
Lisa
